Scope Of Works

Demolition of former police station, including heavily reinforced cells, outbuildings and basement plant rooms. Works also included licensed and non-licensed asbestos removal, demolition of a 4-storey lift shaft and stair cores and demolition within 100mm of a Grade II listed hotel building which remained in full operation throughout the works.

The site had public footpaths and highway on two sides, with high-rise commercial and council buildings and a Grade II listed hotel on the other two sides. In addition, the site was opposite Barrow-in-Furness Town Hall, a Grade II* listed building built in 1887.

The buildings which were demolished were a combination of traditional brick construction with timber and steel roof trusses, reinforced concrete floors and cast-iron columns encased in concrete.
